Immigrant Delegation
Immigrants Deserve Security and Actual, Distinct, Permanent Political Power!
In most societies today, and even many societies in history, immigrants have been treated as second-claas citizens at best, and as subhuman criminals at worst. The price for “better” treatment has often been full assimilation, or more accurately, abandonment of one’s native culture, language, accent, food, spirituality, community, and even values. Even when all of the other boxes are checked, people who look too brown, too different, too “foreign”, are still victimized by white supremacy, xenophobia, and imperialism.
Being originally from another place, carrying a culture and history along, and publicly celebrating that culture, even with a language barrier, are not crimes, and they do not invalidate someone’s opinions, ideas, complaints, leadership ability, or right to a dignified life full of community.
Whether you are here through “legal” or undocumented means, you are a working class person that deserves full participation in the society in which you work and reside, security, autonomy, local community, and equitable political power.
It’s Time to Advance, As Equals
The Immigrant Delegation of the Worker-Tenant Council is a co-equal delegation, meaning no matter how few members are in it, it still is entitled to a full delegatory vote in Council proceedings. All local working-class immigrants, regardless of status, as well as first generation children of immigrants, are voting members of this delegation. Members will elect their own, non-voting delegation leaders, as other delegations.
On all Council issues related to immigration or treatment of immigrants, as well as anti-imperialism, members of this delegation will open, lead, and close discussions. A member from this delegation will also chair all committees on these topics, and the Immigrant Delegation retains veto power on any Council proposals on these topics.
Examples of action items related to this delegation include Safehouse networks, secure jobs, cultural celebration events, cultural seminars, direct immigration defense, and more.
